The story

Nourous started with my cousins. I'd watch them disappear into hours of vlogger content — nothing wrong with any single video, but somehow one turned into ten, and by the end they couldn't tell you what they'd actually watched. Their parents saw it too, but nobody can watch over someone's shoulder all day.

It was my uncle who said it out loud first: someone should build something that changes what these platforms put in front of a kid, instead of just taking the phone away.

Blocking YouTube never felt right — it's where the good stuff lives too. So we built the thing we couldn't find: a filter that narrows the feed instead of switching it off. My cousins have run it every day since. I hope it buys your family back a few evenings too.

What we believe

Filters, not locks. Taking the phone away teaches nothing. Reshaping what it offers does.
On-device by default. The judgment calls about what a video is happen on the machine watching it — not on a server somewhere.
Kids keep a say, parents keep visibility. A child can ask for an override. A parent decides. Neither one is locked out of the conversation.
Built slowly, by a small team. Nourous started as one person's answer to a problem in his own family, and it's still built that way — carefully, and in the open about what it can and can't do yet.

Where it’s headed

The Chrome extension is where Nourous lives today. An Android app that filters on-device is in active development, and it’s included in your subscription the day it ships — no separate purchase, no separate account.
